Kent gas combi boiler conversion

Open Vent Back Boiler Conversion

We do like a system conversion. This one was an old back boiler unit (where the boiler is within the fireplace behind the gas fire, which incidentally was condemned by another gas engineer) with a hot water storage cylinder in the bedroom airing cupboard and two large water cisterns in the loft.

Our task was to free up the airing cupboard and loft space, remove the excess pipework, the old back boiler unit and integrate a new combination boiler in the garage (which also means re-routing the gas supply pipework)…oh and tie in two new radiators for the recent extension. Full steam ahead.

The loft was, as usual, a dirty messy place with lots of nails to snag on and cross beams for me to hit my head on.

We each took an area to decommission on the first day and put our heads down to get it to a stage where we have removed all the old unwanted parts, capped off the old pipework and run most of the new pipework ready for day two.

With the system cleaned, new filter in place and the boiler on the wall we spent day two commissioning the new boiler correctly and lagging the pipework.

Handover was smooth and the central heating and hot water system conversion to combi boiler went smoothly with very few hiccups…aside from the creepy doll in the loft!
