A simple one for an old uncared for system:
I received a call for a property with a coupe of radiators not getting hot like they used to…this often happens with a central heating system that is old, without a filtration system and has not be cleaned in a long while.
Essentially the radiators rust and grey/black sludge (magnetite) builds up and clogs the radiators which means less water volume can circulate…this means less heat!
A simple system drain down, installation of a magnetic filter, circulation of cleaning chemicals and agitation of the troublesome radiators helps remove the clot and frees up more space for a greater volume of hot water.
